lol all the people in these comments so upset over their opinions... they were uneducated, sure. but it's not that big of a deal. they may have missed some things from this documentary but u guys are acting like their opinions suddenly show that they're bad people. and people don't need to do extra research on a topic. they were discussing THE DOCUMENTARY that was made. not extra info they looked up. so many people are so angered by their opinions in this video and it's ridiculous. not everyone sees things the same way so I'm sure if someone had shown them the side that a lot of u believe is what actually happened, they might agree with u... but that's not what they got during the first viewing. u can't expect everyone to completely see what's going on. this comment section is so dumb for attacking them. i see more attacks than people trying to genuinely educate them.

I'm gonna be honest guys.. I'm disappointed in you both for even just watching the show. I personally refused to watch it due to the fact they are torturing animals. It's absolutely disgusting and people think it's hilarious so it bothered me so much that these pieces of shit were getting so much attention. I just wish we lived in a world where they were simply arrested for animal abuse and all the animals just got new homes where they are safe and have room to roam. No stupid show. No fame. Just time and punishment for the monsters, and rehabilitation for the poor animal victims.

For people that typically do research I'm a little disappointed in the reactions of this. I did not completely listen to this full podcast, which I typically enjoy. There are differences in the organizations. They are not the same. Independent of your thoughts on husband's disappearance. Big cat is an accredited sanctuary that continues to donate money to end these facilities from having to exist at all. Which is why she has a target on her and her facility. Carole has even said her dream is that her sanctuary no longer exists or is needed. You also can't get away with moving property around to avoid a legal standing. Which is what Joe was trying to do. They just continued to fight for what was awarded to them. The hype train of everyone being bored.

I love you guys but I really disagree with a lot of your opinions on the show here. I think you should read through some of these comments and revisit the discussion. I don't think you can fairly compare Carole Baskin to the other zoo owners in the show, the three-way wedding was not cute it was abusive, and picking up the ex-cons was not an act of kindness it was taking advantage of those who had nowhere else to turn to ( not to mention Joe got most people who worked in the zoo hooked on meth so that they became dependent on him).

As someone who has grown up in Oklahoma, I'm not terribly surprised by any of this. It's terrible and upsetting but also not exactly shocking. Oklahoma has one of the highest incarceration rates in the nation and is lacking in social supports for people coming out of prison, so that created a prime environment for Joe Exotic to prey on recently released inmates. It also doesnt surprise me that he used meth (and other drugs) to create dependency on him because Oklahoma has a growing meth and opioid problem and there are very few resources for people seeking help. Joe actually ran for governor in 2018 under the Libertarian party and came to my university for a gubernatorial debate. He also gave out rolling papers as a part of his campaign. He got last (~650 votes) in the Libertarian primary but he did win 70% of the vote in the county he's from (17 votes, lol). So, yeah. Not exactly sure where I was going with this comment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    11 kuukautta sitten

Watching this is super interesting. There is a video on FItop called "How documentaries lie to you" and it also goes into Tiger King and how deceptive their storytelling and structure is and how they make you like people (like Joe) by painting the shit things he does in either a good light (hiring people who have no other concept of work to exploit them is painted as some kind of heroism) or followed up by something that makes you feel bad for them right after (him euthanizing perfectly healthy cubs followed by footage of him crying to you from prison). And they also try to paint a very certain narrative about Carole, for example, and especially Julien took to those narratives, I feel like. He inherently does not like Carole and you can tell by how he talks about her. The documentary tells you "she does not pay her employees" which is wrong! She has volunteers! Joe referred to it as "unpaid employees", the documentary never corrects that, so Julien assumes they are. I just find the whole documentary and how people take it so fascinating, I don't know why.

Since these people on the show are manipulative, empathetic people may feel sorry for them at first and not see their abuses as clearly because of this manipulation. Joe did talk about how they sued his mother. Even though it was Joe’s fault for that, it made you feel sorry for them and was manipulative. And there were many other instances where this happened. I am not surprised by their reaction to it. It isn’t always easy to see manipulation, and it is especially hard for people who like to find the best in others to see what others may see clearly as manipulation and abuse. I think Jenna and Julien would benefit from rewatching the series with a different outlook after learning about the manipulation and abuse tactics used by these people. Then it may be easier to see what is really going on. I think everyone’s comments will also help them to see these people more for who they are as well as opposed to how they want to be viewed as. These people clearly have extreme mental issues that affect others, but again, extremely empathetic people like Jenna and Julien may still be trying to see the good in them and feel sorry for all of their struggles despite them being terrible people because they are still in some level of pain..

But of course there are ways to preserve and control species extinction, in reservations. Where natural habitat is preserved and no human action is allowed, its a very large amount of land, a part of the country converted to a reservation, it is guarded by people from other people and it provides assistance to endangered species, where humans usually wouldn't interfere, in a reservation they would assist animals who or on a brink of extinction with medical assistance, food and even bring two opposite sex specimens together in order to encourage reproduction, the animals are also tracked and recorded and documented carefully and observed by scientists from a far. This is the proper and scientific way to preserve animals, not breeding tigers in your back yard, shooting them blank in the face, tearing cubs away from their mothers and letting humans handle them like props, infect them with illnesses for a fiver, i thought this is a well known practise to everyone.....

I think their takes on this really shows how biased this documentary was, even while seeming unbiased. Yes, they did show how awful of a person Joe is but I bet there was so much more that was edited out. And while I agree Carole isn't a good person I think she genuinely wants to help the animals even if she's not going about it in a way we agree with. I also think that most of Joe's workers wanted to help the animals but they couldn't because of the environment they were in. There was NOTHING sweet or endearing to me about Joe's relationships with his 'husbands', people tend to brush it off and not focus on the abuse just because Joe is gay. He manipulated these straight men into marrying him. Watching the moment Travis shot himself was proof enough to me that none of them wanted to be with him, every facet of their relationship is manufactured by Joe to get what he wants. Joe burned those alligators alive to get rid of footage and get some press. Joe and Carole are both bad people, I'm not denying this. However, putting them on the same level is absurd. I don't know if Carole killed her husband or not. But there is SO MUCH abuse and bullshit that Joe did ON CAMERA that people are brushing under the rug because the documentary focused on how awful of a person Carole is.

Have you not seen the Cubs being snatched out of their tiger mama right at the minute they are born? Also, the big cat act would restrict big cat ownership which is a huge issue. This is one of the most tone deaf takes on Tiger King that I've heard yet. I love you guys but you have taken everything at face value with all the editing and haven't thought critically about it at all. Granted it's been a month, but all the things that have come out about Carol Baskin and her husband shows that the producers edited the hell out of her story and made it out to be something it's absolutely not. They completely left out that her husband was in trouble with the mafia and had been flying without a licence for years when he disappeared. They edited her to be on the same level as Joe Exotic when she's absolutely not. That scene where Carol was selling tickets to the sanctuary was a ONCE A YEAR fundraising event. Many sanctuaries run on volunteer support, and they're not going to let a brand new volunteer work with the lions and tigers. The shirts are to denote what kind of experience you have with the animals. She runs a top, internationally accredited sanctuary and it's despicable what those producers did to her.
