When they talked about gym class and how it wasn’t physically taxing it’s really upsetting because not everyone was physically fit enough for it to not be taxing. Like we have lots of warm ups and it you are heavier set those things are torture, and even if you are not heavy set and not fit and are just bad at sports you get really nervous because you are afraid that the ones who are will Ridicule you, like it happened to me multiple times during school and it’s not even fun because you are basically being forced to do activities that aren’t fun to most of the student population, and most of the time you don’t have any other options just do it or fail. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t enjoy the class, but you shouldn’t generalize that it’s a fun leisure class.

Them talking about detention and getting called to the principals office reminded me of this one time in middle school in 8th grade, I was sitting in the very back seat of the bus with my best friend and she grabbed my hand while telling me a story to sort of demonstrate whatever she was saying and we got yelled at by one of the ‘guidance’ people that had to ride with us. She got picked up, so I rode with a different friend on the way back and we hit a bump on a turn so she landed on my shoulder. The next Monday at school I got called to the principals office for PDA and my principal gave me a very homophobic speech and yelled at me for 10 minutes about girls holding hands and dating.

Here's the story of my one and only 2 hour Friday detention in high school. Its a doozy. So my old school each year takes one week called "Winter Carnival." During this week we have like maybe 3 classes in total but most we spend the week doing contests. The contests were like, lip-sync battle, hall decorating, trivia, wood sculpting contests, etc. Very wild and wack. So this was my senior year and I was doing a vocational class for nursing at the high school a town away from us. This was normal for a lot of kids planning to go into trades jobs and I had about 10 kids in my class. The vocational teachers knew about this spirit week and were fine with us not going to these vocational classes this week. We were also told this by the school VP. The school VP was a MORON. On the second day of Winter Carnival we all got called into his office and he told us we were required to go to the vocational school and miss winter carnival. Apparently ONE teacher at the vocational school decided he wanted his students at class but none of the other teachers cared. But because this ONE teacher wanted their students to go we now ALL had to go. This wasn't what we were told ahead of time or promised by our specific teachers so of course we all said "No fucking way." He said we had to go no matter what or there would be "consequences." Since I was a nursing student and I wasn't expecting to go to class that day, I needed to go home and get my scrubs. So did several other kids to get their scrubs, welding gear, work boots, etc. The VP told us we WEREN'T ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL GROUNDS TO GET OUR SHIT DESPITE HIM FORCING US TO GO TO OUR CLASSES. I'm sure a lot of you are thinking, "call your parents to go get them for you." Um, we would but 99% of our parents either worked or weren't allowed to drive. Not only that but we weren't allowed to use our cell phones and the school phone wasn't working. Aka fucking chaos. So, none of us went. We told our teachers and they understood/were confused by the VP. The next day the VP called us all back in and ripped into us for not going to those classes. Despite us calling him out he refused to take any blame and gave us all Friday 2hr detention. I was pissed. I'm a good kid and student so I went to my mom and we ripped into the VP during a meeting. He still refused to lift the detention despite my mom and I basically reminding him he ain't shit and her taxes pay his salary. I told him to shove it and that I was bringing my laptop to do homework because the school wifi was impossible to crack. So on the next Friday I did my 2hr detention with the CREEPER TEACHER and watched as two sophomores fought in the hallway outside his room. It was very weird and I do not recommend. TL:DR The pride of white men will always trump logic in their minds. Fuck you Mr. Bartlette

I really appreciated Julien's comment about getting hurt in PE because I exclusively got most of my injuries in my childhood from PE. I wasn't a very athletic kid but I always tried my best and tried to have fun, that didn't stop me from getting hurt because kids are kids and when you throw a bunch of kids in a big room where you tell them to compete and run around someone will get hurt, and that was usually me

In my middle school if you didn't want to take gym you could just opt out of it, so I did all three years. High school you could either take HOPE which was health and gym, you could do two years of JROTC, or two seasons of a varsity sport. I did HOPE online during the summer before high school so I could just bs the workout logs. I haven't done gym since elementary school

My PE sucked in Jr high, I live in Arizona and it’s so fucking hot outside. But I’m high school I took dance every year. Didn’t do anything with that knowledge.

PE was fun in elementary. But middle school was hell. We ran miles weekly and the tests were really hard. We also had to run with our hands on top on towels on the floor with our butts in the air. I got so many skinned knees and bruises from PE. It was torture. I didn’t take PE in high school tho. I’m v thin btw
